It also comes with a battery powered ElectroWall to define the boundaries of the robot. This budget-friendly option from a well-known brand is the cheapest model we've ever tested and provides an exceptional value for the cost. Its basic navigation system is based on a basic random pathing algorithm and it's not able to map rooms. This renders it less efficient as other models on this list. It's still able to get under furniture and into the corners. Mopping mode was very effective in our tests, picking up stray hair and other debris. 5. Shark iQ Shark's iQ isn't as robust as the Roomba S9, but it is superior in general at cleaning up pet hair on all surfaces. It gets rid of floors with less efficiently and does a decent job on carpets with low pile, and it makes use of smart-pathing navigational technology for better maneuverability. It also lets you send it to a specific room, and its sophisticated suite of automation features includes no-go zones and scheduling. It also allows you to pause and resume cleaning sessions making it ideal for homes with pets. The self-cleaning brushroll eliminates tangles and can carry up to 30 day's worth of dirt. It also has an array of side brushes that are angled to dig deep into corners, and its multi-stage filter system is able to capture dust, dander and allergens for cleaner air. This robot vacuum is well-built and feels solid. It works with an app for smartphones which lets you alter the vacuum's settings and schedule cleaning sessions in advance. The app lets you view the remaining battery life of the iQ and send push notifications for any problems it encounters during a cleaning cycle. You can control it using your voice with an Amazon Alexa device or Google Assistant device. If you don't have either of these devices you can mark out areas by using physical boundary markers. The iQ is good at cleaning bare floors and it does an adequate job with carpets that are sagging and low-pile. However it's not able to provide the same level of autonomy as our top picks.
